The St. Stephen’s Conservation Area Residents' Association is formally constituted and holds an annual general meeting from which a steering group is elected. The group meets regularly throughout the year to discuss matters affecting the area.
What We Do
St. Stephen's Conservation Area Residents’ Association [RA], actively works to ensure that the character of the Conservation Area is preserved and enhanced. We take up issues and concerns of residents who live in Angelfield, Argyle Road, New Road, Parkside Road, Station Road, St. Stephen’s Road and The Avenue. We also consider proposals and developments in surrounding areas in case they impact negatively on the Conservation Area.
We work with others, including local authorities, other residents’ associations and individuals, to protect and preserve the key characteristics which make our conservation area special. Over the years we have witnessed a series of developments which countered the spirit and the law of our Conservation Area:
-
Removal of historic boundary walls and mature front gardens
-
Felling of trees from front and back gardens
-
Destruction of original conservatories to side of properties
-
Removal of sash windows and/or stained glass windows, original wooden front doors and period pathways with beautiful tiling
-
Also numerous, unsympathetic conversions.
We don’t want to lose any more of the heritage in our area! Please play your part in protecting and enhancing all that makes the Conservation Area you live in so special.
Social Activities and Events
The Residents' Association organise a number of social events each year which has included a Big Lunch, Christmas Festive Day, Historian Event, Summer Street Party, Quiz Evenings and musical events to name a few.
